Call of Raven

In 2019 Martin Schleske wrote an essay about the call of a raven, which he had heard outside of his window. Schleske interpreted the call as a wake-up call, with which the bird intended to point at the massive extinction of many of the species – a call for justice for all creatures (Mt. 6:33). The song “Call of Raven” is based on this essay.

Call of Raven

Creation awaits your healing
Being crushed by human hands
Hear the creatures screaming
For justice in Your lands

The oceans roar their chorus
Of outrage and detest
Once they sang You praises
Now they die – from manmade pest..

Hear the call of raven
A song of beauty and of praise
Hear the final calling
Bowing meekly before your grace

Plants showed many colors
Now losing lives and count
Longing for breath and water
In worldwide money-stricken haunt

Beast are groaning sorrow
All creatures come to join
Mourning for losing one another
While mankind – counts their coins…

Hear the call of raven
A song of beauty and of praise
Hear the final calling
Bowing meekly before your grace

Earth is losing balance
Seasons – winding in a swirl
Tides go mad in dancing
Flood and heat in wild turmoil

You, Lord, hear their calling
You see their wounds and fears
Your heart feels their mourning
You hear the call of raven – in your ears

Hear the call of raven
A song of beauty and of praise
Hear the final calling
Bowing meekly before your grace
